What is the best app to learn wine pronunciation?
Vinolingo is built for exactly this. Most wine apps only show a written respelling. Vinolingo plays native audio for each of its 214 terms, shows the IPA and stress, and then has you say the word yourself and scores it with speech recognition, so you know whether you actually got it right. Spaced repetition keeps the words fresh.
How does Vinolingo check my pronunciation?
Tap the microphone on a term and say it. Apple speech recognition turns what you said into text, and Vinolingo compares it with the expected pronunciation and its accepted variants to give you a score on your device. Scoring needs an internet connection. Your recordings are not stored or uploaded.
Which languages and wine terms does Vinolingo cover?

Is Vinolingo the same as Winelingo?
No. Vinolingo (with a V) is an independent wine pronunciation app for iPhone and iPad. It is not related to Winelingo or any other similarly named app.
Does Vinolingo work offline?
Mostly. Browsing terms, listening to the audio and the tasting journal work offline. Scoring your pronunciation needs an internet connection, because Apple speech recognition runs online.
Is Vinolingo useful for WSET students?
Yes. Many of the grapes, regions and label terms in Vinolingo appear in WSET Level 2 and Level 3 wine courses, and the tasting journal follows a structured tasting approach. Vinolingo is an independent app and is not affiliated with or endorsed by WSET.
Will Vinolingo mark my English pronunciation as wrong?
No. Vinolingo teaches the native pronunciation, but established English forms (for example sham-PAYN for Champagne or SHAR-dn-ay for Chardonnay) and standard regional variants (such as Castilian and Latin American Spanish) are accepted as correct. New World place names are taught the way locals say them.
Does Vinolingo collect my data?

Vinolingo ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains where your data goes.
Data We Collect
Vinolingo collects no personal data. We do not require an account, an email address or any identifying information, and no data you create in the app is sent to us.
Your Voice: Microphone & Speech Recognition
For Say It Back practice, Vinolingo uses your microphone and Apple's Speech Recognition framework. Your speech is sent to Apple to be recognized. Apple handles it under Apple's own privacy policy, and Apple may process it on Apple's servers. Vinolingo receives only the recognized text, which it uses to calculate your score on your device.
Vinolingo does not store or upload your recordings. No audio is saved by the app, and no audio or transcript is sent to us or to any third party.
Vinolingo asks for microphone and speech recognition access only when you first choose to practice out loud. You can turn either off at any time in the iOS Settings app; listening to pronunciations and every other feature keep working.
Study Progress and Tasting Notes: iCloud Sync
Your study progress (scores, streaks and study sessions), your tasting notes and your wine list are stored on your device. If you are signed in to iCloud, Apple syncs them to your own private iCloud storage so they are available on your other devices. This data is stored in your iCloud account, and we cannot access it. You can turn off iCloud for Vinolingo in iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
App preferences (such as the Show IPA setting) are stored only on your device.
In-App Purchases
Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. We do not have access to your payment information. Apple manages your purchase history; the app checks it on your device to unlock Pro.
Analytics & Tracking
Vinolingo does not use analytics SDKs, tracking pixels or advertising identifiers. We do not track you across apps or websites, and we do not share or sell any data.
This Website
vinolingo.app sets no cookies and has no accounts or forms. Page views are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which runs without cookies, does not fingerprint visitors and gives us only aggregate numbers (pages, referrers, countries, browser types). The site is served by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver the pages.
Third-Party Services
Apart from Apple's speech recognition, iCloud and StoreKit described above, Vinolingo does not send data to any third-party service. Browsing terms and listening to pronunciations work offline.
App Store Privacy Label
The App Store privacy label for Vinolingo is "Data Not Collected". Speech recognition, iCloud sync and purchases are provided by Apple, and the developer cannot access that data.
Children's Privacy
Vinolingo does not knowingly collect any data from children. The app refers to alcoholic beverages and is not directed at children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. If Vinolingo starts collecting any data, this policy and the App Store privacy label will say so before that version is released.

How do I unlock all wine terms?
Tap the upgrade button in Settings or on any locked term to view Pro subscription options. Choose monthly, yearly, or lifetime access.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Open Vinolingo > Settings > Restore Purchases. Your Pro access will be restored automatically if you're signed in with the same Apple ID.
How does pronunciation practice work?
Tap the microphone icon on any term, then speak the word. Vinolingo uses Apple's native speech recognition to evaluate your pronunciation. Your speech is processed directly by Apple; nothing is recorded or stored.
Can I use Vinolingo offline?
Mostly. Browsing terms, listening to the audio and the tasting tool work offline. Scoring your pronunciation needs an internet connection, because Apple's speech recognition runs online.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions > Vinolingo > Cancel Subscription. You'll retain access until the end of your current billing period.
The audio isn't playing. What should I do?
Make sure your device isn't in silent mode and the volume is turned up. If the issue persists, try restarting the app.

Vinolingo includes a free tier, and Pro unlocks every term. Pro is available as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase. Current pricing is shown in the App Store and in the app before you purchase.
Subscriptions
Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID account. They auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your device's Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions.
